Write this one down, folks. As I type, all three kids (yes, even the 5 year old) are napping. I know! It's a miracle. They've been sleeping since about 1:00, too!

So what did I do with my time? Clean? Cook my mom a birthday dinner? Bathe? Nah, I surfed eBay. Important stuff.

We have been fever free for just almost 24 hours, which means we could get to go home tonight or in the morning (I'd feel better if it were in the morning, personally). He has the worst diaper rash that we (and the nurses and LNP) have ever seen. We're talking bleeding bad. They said the antibiotics are doing a number on him (I guess because he already had a slight diaper rash to begin with). Poor little itty bitty!

Came back to the ER around 9:30 last night with a fever of 101.2. They attempted the spinal tap around 12:30, but it didn't work. We were finally taken to our pediatric room at 4-freaking-30! (you better believe someone's going to hear some complaining!) They want to monitor him for 48 to 72 hours to make sure he doesn't develop any other symptoms than fever and to keep him on IV meds. I'll try to update on Flickr as I can.

It started like this...
All day yesterday (Monday) Southern Baby was just irritated. That's the best way I can describe the way he cried as if his feelings were deeply hurt anytime he wasn't eating or being held tightly in my arms. Truthfully we thought is was gas trapped in his tummy, but when he woke up at just almost 3 am feeling VERY warm, I knew he was sick. I woke up the hubs to assist me in the grand task of taking a newborn's temp rectally (FUN!), and it registered 101.5. I called my pediatrician's after hours line, and the nurse told me anything above 100.5 should be taken to the ER (since it was the middle of the night and all). I call my mom to get here to stay with the other two kiddos, and we head out. His temp at the ER was 100.7, and his breathing and heart rate were fast. All tests (blood count, urine, x-ray) turned out normal - which meant it was probably just a viral infection, and the Dr. on duty didn't truly think it was meningitis, but that test (a spinal tap) was the next step if we wanted to pursue it. We asked for the opinion of the pediatrician on call from our clinic, and that Dr. said it would be perfectly fine to take him home, give him tylenol, monitor him and report back to the clinic tomorrow (Wednesday) for a follow-up. He's been great all day - he's eating well, hasn't really cried, has kept his temp at 99.7 then 99.4. We're supposed to stop giving him tylenol now to see if his temp comes back up (which will send us back to the ER for the spinal tap), then report to the Dr. in the morning how he did overnight. I am praying that this is over and that his temp doesn't come back up. I don't think I could bear my little baby boy having to go through all of that!

I am headed out the door with all 3 kids. I haven't showered, my legs are hairy (understatement), my hair is stringy. My clothes, which are maternity, are amazingly clean (until I get spit up on by the baby and snotted/drooled on by the toddler) but wrinkled. Both babies have cried all morning for no apparent reason, and the five year old won't mind to save his life. Wish me luck...I'm gonna need it!

Lots of eating, pooping, and sleeping going on here. I can't even describe how many diapers and wipes we are going through between the 2 babies. I won't lie, it's hard, but it's getting better every day. Sorry updates are virtually nonexistant!

ETA: Sorry this picture is so crappy...I didn't turn on the light so the baby wouldn't wake up. Result = sucky, grainy cell phone picture. Oh, well!

He arrived yesterday around 2:00. A whopping 8 lbs. 9 oz.! C-section went well...pain meds after knocked me on my ass! I'll be able to post more later, but wifi here at the hospital keeps dropping. There's a few more pics at Flickr, but I'll be marking them friends only pretty soon. Hope to be home tomorrow...

The last day

Tomorrow we officially become a family of five. It seems unreal. I mean it literally was just last year that Southern Girl came into our lives. I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has passed. It seems like just a couple of months ago that it was October and we found out we were expecting again. Time does fly, as "they" say. The kids and I had a great last day together...we cuddled on the couch this morning, went out for breakfast, went to a couple of stores, came back home for naps, etc, then went swimming this afternoon (who knows when I'll be able to get in a pool again this summer!). Tonight, Southern Boy asked me to sit with him on the couch and watch Disney, so I stopped my packing and sat down. He played with my hair and so earnestly looked me in the eye and said "Mama, do you love me?" I told him of course I did, and he laughed and said "I know that!" We snuggled while we watched some show, and he fell asleep. He seems much more confidant about what's going to happen tomorrow, mostly due to him remembering Southern Girl being born last year, but I know that he knows one more sibling in the house means less one on one time for him (this saddens me deeply). Now Southern Girl is a complete other story...I am so worried about her adjusting to a baby in the house. She is still very much our baby, which won't change, but I just hope she's not jealous of all the attention and time the new baby will require. We'll see how it all turns out, cause there's no turning back now!

All these celebrities are dropping babies, yet I'm still hanging in there. Totally not fair!

If mother nature doesn't let me go on my own this week, they've scheduled me for an induction on Thursday morning. Luckily it's with my favorite doctor in the practice, so that helps. The thing is, I truly don't hurt at all. I have swollen fingers and feet, I feel enormous, and I can't sleep at night because the belly gets in the way OR I'm peeing every hour, BUT I'm not hurting. I guess I should quit my complaining and enjoy my last few days with only 2 children...I have a feeling things will get hairy this weekend when we introduce #3 into the house!

Comments may or may not work until some indefinite point in the future. I'd hate to get my hopes up or anything. Bah.

Still here...still no baby

I'm still pregnant...going on month 23. At least it feels like it! I haven't been around much at all because we've been decorating 2 nurseries. NO, I haven't been holding out on y'all...we are NOT having twins. We moved Southern Girl to the guest bedroom, and we are moving the baby into Southern Girl's original nursery. Both moves involved lots of paint, and I am proud to say that the baby's room is finally ready to be decorated. I've got pics of Southern Girl's room (the room from the pic below) that I will upload to Flickr soon, and I'll take pics of the baby's room when we get the finishing touches on it (hopefully by Tuesday night!). All I know is, I have done very little of the work portion of getting the rooms ready, but I am absolutely worn out. I wake up tired. And cranky. I toss back and forth between wanting this baby out NOW and wanting it to stay in as long as possible because the thought of three kids (two of whom are 16 months apart) scares the living shit out of me. Oh well, too late to back out now, right?
